The Lumberjack’s sales team receives national recognition
Sasha Solomonov - April 24th, 2008Last month, the sales team for the Lumberjack traveled to San Antonio to participate in the national College Newspaper Business Advertising and Managers Conference (CNBAM).
Every year schools across America, ranging from giants like UCLA to the ivy league Yale to smaller schools like NAU, come together to share ideas, discuss challenges, listen to guest speakers and network.
In addition, the conference honors student achievements in advertising displays and staff positions. Michelle Gardner, a senior journalism major and sales director, was awarded “Ad Manager of the Year, Circulation under 40,000.” Last year, the Lumberjack’s sales director Nicole Heinicke won the same award.
“It’s really amazing because no school in the nation has ever recieved the Ad Manager of the Year two years in a row,” Gardner said. “And it’s cool to know that little NAU is being recognized.”
In total, eight representatives attended the conference and returned with three awards. The team recieved second place for best newspaper promotion advertisement and first place for best display advertisement for Karma sushi. Last year the staff recieved four total awards.
“Getting one award is a big deal, so the fact that we got so many is huge,” Gardner said.
The Arizona Daily Wildcat at the U of A took back four awards, while The State Press at ASU received one award.
Kyle Porter, a sophomore business marketing major, works as sales representative for the Lumberjack said his team earned the awards.
“I was surprised but I think we deserve them because we all worked our butts off,” Porter said.
Porter will be taking on the position of sales director next semester and is excited for the challenges that come with the job.
“I know Kyle can be the third ad manager of the year in a row to bring it home,” Gardner said.
