Last Quick Hit of the Semester
Eric Gallo - May 1st, 2008This is the last edition of quick hits for the year. To wrap things up, second place was a theme for the Lumberjacks. Men’s basketball, golf, and women’s tennis all earned second place conference finishes.
Cross country broke through and both the men’s and women’s cross country teams won Big Sky championships. Head coach Eric Heins was named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year. Both cross country teams nabbed top-10 finishes in the NCAA Championships.
Coaching changes were a common occurrence this year. Volleyball and golf both named new head coaches. After Dean Owen’s departure, men’s tennis is now going to be looking for a new coach.
The Lumberjack outdoor track and field team competed at the Drake Relays this past weekend.
Junior Aisha Goynes recorded a lifetime best in the triple jump. Goynes posted a triple jump of 40-2.25. The jump was good enough to qualify Goynes for the NCAA West Regional.
The final track meet of the season is this weekend in the double dual in Tucson. The Jacks will compete against both Arizona and Arizona State.
In NBA news the Charlotte Bobcats did not take long in naming a new head coach. The Bobcats introduced veteran coach Larry Brown as their new head man.
New Orleans Hornets coach Byron Scott was named the NBA’s Coach of the Year. Scott led the Hornets to the playoffs for the first time in four years. The Hornets also won a franchise record 56 games this season and secured the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference.
Miami Heat president and coach Pat Riley stepped down as coach. Assistant Erik Spoelstra is the new head coach.
